The US Chamber of Commerce just released the 5 most significant trends for independent businesses for 2025.
- Return to work mandates are driving an exodus of senior level managers. These “hard to replace” employees place a high value on work-life balance and are often leaving to go to work for direct competitors.
- Ai is not just a “buzz word” anymore. 40% of independent businesses claim they are using ai. (This is double the usage rate in 2023)
- Resilience is popping up as a key trend for 2025. This refers to a company’s capacity to survive and adapt in the midst of unexpected disruptions. (This is particularly important in supply chain dependent businesses).
- Social commerce is exploding. Having a social presence has been ongoing in importance, but with social sites offering purchase capability, it is becoming a must for all businesses. The engagement and high purchase intent metrics on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok are no longer able to be ignored.
- Sustainability remains strong in 2025. Both employees and consumers place a high weight on a company’s commitment to being environmentally responsible. Having a sustainability message is no longer “nice to have” but essentially a must.
