Some of the largest companies in the world are Software as a Service (SaaS) companies and what may be more important, is that they got there through developing a SaaS business model.

How is Netflix still a common brand and Blockbuster is not? The answer is primarily SaaS…

Combine a cloud-based software application with a subscription fee and you are developing a SaaS model. If this is starting to sound familiar to you, it’s because this trend has exploded in recent years and many former skeptics have now embraced the advantages. Yes – Smart phone applications are often examples of SaaS and that is the interface most consumers of SaaS products are familiar with. This familiarity combined with trends in the television industry have changed the way we consume television shows, movies, and even live sports events!

The multi trillion-dollar SaaS industry is ripe for next generation entrepreneurs who have ideas or technical skills to solve problems using SaaS technologies. It is true that one very talented person with internet access could start a SaaS company, but a more likely scenario is that some combination of entrepreneur, developer, investor, technology incubator, and minimal electronic infrastructure will do the trick!
