These two marketing strategies are both important to your overall business success, but they each have very different roles. Content marketing is part of a longer-term strategy for a brand. It is intended to demonstrate brand credibility. Some examples of content marketing include:
- Blogs or Articles
- e-Books
- White Papers
- Podcasts
- Webinars
The key to successful content marketing is to deliver consistent, valuable information. Content marketing works well with social media posts in the form of a link that will drive the social reader to your website (or others) to build their knowledge on a given subject. It is important that your content marketing is focused and purposeful.
Social media marketing, on the other hand, is just as it sounds – more social. It is about creating awareness for your brand with quick, engaging and often entertaining snippets. Both Facebook and Instagram posts will be brief, contain either still or video imagery and will try to drive engagement from the reader. Examples are:
- Short catchy phrases, captions
- Short videos
- Interactive polls
- GIFs and/or Memes
If you are not deploying both content and social media marketing to support your business, it’s time to get started. The good news is that anyone can learn to do it with a little coaching.
